Virtual Fall Institute Registration Now Open
Are you new to Canvas? Maybe you're looking for ways to increase student engagement with your course content? Or are you just curious about tech tools available at Stan State? Join the 2022 Virtual Fall Institute and get the information and inspiration you need for a successful Fall 2022 semester! Selected participants can also earn a $750 stipend for completing the institute requirements. All faculty are welcome to attend sessions without participating in the stipend program.

Stipend Requirements
To receive a stipend, participants must:
- Attend 9 of 10 sessions from Tues-Thu and the non-optional Friday sessions
- Prepare a 10-minute presentation on at least three ideas you will incorporate into your Fall courses based on the workshops attended.

Update to Canvas New Quizzes Time Line
As previously announced by OAT, Instructure intended to enforce two deadlines for the migration from Classic quizzes to the New Quizzes format in Canvas. The first deadline was set to happen in June 2022 and the second in June 2023.
Instead, Instructure has now put out a single deadline by which all quizzes in Canvas must use the New Quizzes engine: June 1, 2024. Classic quizzes must be converted to New Quizzes by that date in order to remain usable, and after that date quizzes can only be created with the New Quizzes tool. Currently, instructors are welcome to try out the New Quizzes engine with a new quiz or to convert an existing quiz.
OAT will have more information about this transition in the coming months.

Turnitin Improvements Now Available in Canvas
An additional method for using Turnitin with Canvas is now available. Called "Plagiarism Framework," the new method is not a replacement for the existing External Tool work flow (both options exist side by side), but it is a more direct interface between Canvas and Turnitin for those instructors who wish to use it.
The following comparison provides an overview of the main differences between the two options:

Usage instructions for Turnitin
Measure Learning Outcomes in Canvas
Departments now have a powerful way to create and assess learning outcomes/objectives in Canvas. Thanks to a reorganization of the way classes are laid out within Canvas, it's possible to easily create centralized learning outcomes that can be attached to specific assignments within any course. Once assessed by an instructor, that assignment data is available as part of a departmental report that an assessment coordinator or similar individual can retrieve. Bonus: outcomes can usually be assessed in past courses, retroactively!

Instructors! You can also use Outcomes to assess students according to the formal learning outcomes that you’ve developed for your course. Results of those assessments can be viewed using the “Learning Mastery Gradebook” feature of Canvas.
