What Is NoMAD And Why Do I Need It?
NoMAD is short for No More Active Directory and is used to sync your local Macintosh computer login with your Active Directory (Stan State) password. Since your Stan State password is compliant with the University's security standards, OIT has decided that it would be best to bring that standard to all University issued Macintosh computers per security audit findings. The following article will show you how to navigate NoMAD.
Signing In And Syncing
NoMAD will automatically install on all currently issued University Macintosh computers. The following two notifications will appear once the app is installed and launched:
New computers will already have NoMAD installed, so you may not see the two notifications above. You will need to be on campus or connected to GlobalProtect VPN if off campus to sign into NoMAD. Here's how to sign in:
- NoMAD will appear in your menu bar as a triangle icon
- Click on the triangle and select "Sign In"
- There will be a pop up titled "Stan State Sign In" asking for username and password, this is where you will enter your Stan State username and password
- Once signed in, you may receive a message stating that your passwords aren't synced. This is where you will enter the local account password (the one you use to log into the computer or install apps) and select "Sync"
Once successfully signed in, you will see that the triangle icon in the menu bar now has a check mark in the middle. This indicates that the computer password (password used to install apps and log in) has been changed to your Stan State password (password for csustan.edu email, myCSUStan, etc.).
While off campus, NoMAD does not need to be connected all the time. If you need to change your password and you're off campus, please connect to GlobalProtect VPN and use NoMAD to change your password (see next section).
NoMAD Menu Items
NoMAD not only syncs your Stan State password to you local Macintosh login, it also has some features that could be useful to you.
- Change Password
- This will take you to a Microsoft password change page (full Stan State email sign in required). Once signed in, you'll be prompted to create a new password and then verify the newly created password. After changing your password, you will need to wait about 15 minutes for the following notification to pop up:
Click the Options drop-down and select "Sign In" to sync your new password.
This will bring up the sign in screens presented in the third and fourth bullet points in the "Signing In And Syncing" portion of this article. Remember, if you are off campus and need to change your password, you will need to sign into GlobalProtect VPN to have your new password sync to your Macintosh login.
- Lock Screen
- This will securely lock your screen in case you need to step away from your work. No one will be able to get into your Macintosh computer unless your password is entered.
- Get/Update Apps
- This will open an app called "Self Service". There, you will be able to install and/or update standard apps that the University/OIT offers to its community. Check this once in a while to see if you need to install, update, or remove apps.
- Submit A Ticket
- This will take you to OIT's client portal. Here you will be able to submit and check on your tickets or search for some how-to articles.
