Classroom Support

Welcome to the Classroom Support page. Here is where you can access services for classrooms, conference rooms, and event spaces as well as accessing training/demos for VIA, Zoom, and the use of virtual reality in the classroom.

Classroom Support Overview

OIT supports academics by installing and maintaining various technologies in the classroom and in conference rooms. The Classroom Support team is continuing its effort to replace older technologies in classrooms and conference rooms to promote contemporary teaching and learning methods as well as connecting people from around the world through virtual means. The following are the types of technologies that are available to the university community:

Legacy Classroom
This type of classroom used to be known as a "smart room" and has tactile push-button controls on either a black box mounted on the wall or embedded into a cabinet style lectern. To project the content of your device, you will need to utilize a VGA or HDMI cable for display and a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio.

VIA Classroom
This type of classrooms has the same connection options as a legacy classroom but also has the ability to project video and send audio signals through a wireless connection using the proprietary VIA app or Apple Screen Mirroring. There is also a computer built into the front station with Internet access, the Microsoft Office suite, and the Zoom app and utilizes the mounted document camera or the built-in monitor camera for video communication. This room is controlled by an iPad at the front station.

Active Learning Classroom
This type of classroom has the same offerings as a VIA classroom but has additional stations around the classroom called "pods" designed for smaller collaborative groups. Each "pod" is controlled by an iPad at the head of each station and can be controlled by the main station at the front of the room as well.

Distance Learning Room
This type of classroom has the same offerings as the VIA classroom plus has access to cable television channels. A Distance learning room is desinged to capture lectures so they can be broadcasted to any of our satellite classroom locations and has an option for the recording to be saved for later use.

Premium Classroom
This classroom type has the same offerings as the VIA classrooms but also include access to cable television channels and a microphone for voice amplification.

Conference Room
The Classroom Support team also builds and maintains conference rooms. Most updated rooms will have either a large high definition television or projector depending on the size of the room. They will also have some type of combination of conference phone, VIA, and/or Zoom capabilities.
