Enable the SPOT Dashboard in Canvas

Instructions for Faculty to Enable Online SPOT Dashboard in Canvas

Enabling the SPOT Dashboard tool in Canvas is an easy way to allow students to complete the SPOT survey when "online" SPOT has been chosen for a course.

Note: Enabling SPOT Dashboard is optional. Whether enabled or not in a Canvas course, SPOT survey links are always directly emailed to students.

How Students Complete the SPOT Survey For a Course

1. Go into the course and click the “SPOT Dashboard” link in the course navigation menu. The “SPOT Dashboard” interface will load. The dashboard displays all of the student's courses where online SPOT has been enabled.
2. Click the green survey icon on the far right to load the survey for the desired course.

FAQ: Can I Test the SPOT Link As A Student?

No. The "View as a Student" tool in Canvas will not work with the SPOT Dashboard link because the Student View user is not a real Canvas user and has no email address. As such, it will simply return an error message.  The dashboard view is personal to each individual and there is no need to test the tool as a student (review the above for what to tell your students if desired).

How to Track Completion Rate

1. Open to the “SPOT Dashboard” link in the course navigation menu.
2. Review the percentage completion displayed on the dashboard.

How to Review Survey Results

Once the embargo period has passed (30 days following the closure of the survey), instructors can view the report of the course survey.

1. Open to the “SPOT Dashboard” link in the course navigation menu.
2. Click the “Report” link on the far right to download the report.
