Installing the Oracle Client

Before you proceed

If you do not have a "Q" drive on your computer, you must request access to the CMS data center through the Security Request Form before a "Q" drive will appear on your computer.  If you have already submitted a Security Request form and that request has been completed, but still do not have the "Q" drive after rebooting your computer, please contact the Technology Support Desk.

Installing the client

The installer is at "Q:\Technical\Oracle\winx64_21300_client".  It is the recommended installer and the instructions will use this as the example.

  1. Navigate to "\\csu-fs001-sta\CMS$\Technical\Oracle\winx64_21300_client\client" and double click the setup.exe file:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Select "Custom" and click the "Next" button:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Select "Use Windows Built-in Account" and click the "Next" button:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. The Oracle client can be installed anywhere, but the provided "Oracle base" is recommended.  Remove any reference to username, and click the "Next" button:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. Select the "SQL*Plus", "Oracle Advanced Security", and "Oracle Net" components to install, then click the "Next" button:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. Make a note of the "Oracle home location" since this path will be needed for the last step of the installation, and then click the "Install" button:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  7. Close the installer after installation is complete.
  1. Copy the two files(sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora) found in "Q:\Technical\Oracle\Database\Copy the files in this subfolder to user computer" to the "Oracle home location" path outlined in the installation summary shown in step 6, in the network\admin subdirectory from there.  For this example, we would copy the files in "Q:\Technical\Oracle\Database\Copy the files in this subfolder to user computer" to "C:\app\client\product\21.0.0\client_1\network\admin".
